An unexpected brand on a quest for sustainable tech solutions

The world of IT is rarely considered exciting. Full of uninspiring brands, boring processes and cookie-cutter solutions. ShepherdTech are on a mission to change perceptions. Combining unique sustainable solutions with deep technical knowledge, they're challenging the status quo of an outdated sector.

They needed a bold and unique brand to compliment this mission, but came to us with a single proposition – they wanted a dog for a logo. The dream brief.

"What if we went full medieval...?"

After learning about ShepherdTech, it was clear they really were unexpected characters in a stale industry, so we set out to position them as just that. We quickly landed on a heraldic dog logo that felt perfect, but building a modern brand around medieval heraldry felt like a wildcard. Luckily, with two other solid routes up our sleeves, we rolled the dice.

It was an instant hit (with a route name like 'sustainable tech m'lord' how could it not be), but we all felt it needed more. So we buckled up and doubled down into the world of fantasy.

Sustainable support meets swords and sorcery.

The result is possibly the most fun brand we've ever built. Completely unexpected with bags of humble character and the right amount of humour. Positioning ShepherdTech as 'Technical Wizards' allows them to tap into the rich world of fantasy language and imagery to build a truly unique brand.

Crucially, none of this comes at the expense of their professional integrity. It was important to balance the fun with the functional, allowing the brand to scale when it needed to explain technicality.

A beacon of light in a boring sector

One of the most impressive things about ShepherdTech is their commitment to building a community around sustainable IT infrastructure. A potentially uninteresting topic which has never been more important. The new brand gives them huge leverage in achieving this aim. Hard to ignore but easy to like, it provides a platform for removing the boring label of the IT world, challenging the norms and engaging the next generation of tech wizards.
